Bangladesh Youth COP 2025: Youth for a Just Transition
Young people are always among the first to suffer from floods, cyclones and heatwaves, yet they are rarely heard in climate policy. Since 2021, Brighters Society of Bangladesh, with ActionAid Bangladesh, has organised Bangladesh Youth COP to carry grassroots youth voices to national and global platforms.
HEART took part as a youth-led partner organisation in Bangladesh Youth COP 2025, from the signing of the terms of reference to the final event.
Regional Youth COPs
Regional conferences in Bandarban (18 July 2025), Barguna (2 August 2025) and Lalmonirhat/Sunamganj brought young people together with guests of honour to discuss climate impacts, co-create solutions and agree a youth statement.
Research ahead of COP30
With Brighters and the support of ActionAid Bangladesh, HEART also carried out field research, “Youth COP: Heads Up to COP30”, in the haor wetlands of Sunamganj. Through discussions, interviews and observation, the team documented flooding, insecure livelihoods and environmental damage, and how young people are adapting.
Selected young people also joined a climate negotiation fellowship with orientation and hands-on training in negotiation strategy.
